Baptism of the Holy Spirit

Acts 8:14-17New Living Translation (NLT)

14 When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that the people of Samaria had accepted God’s message, they sent Peter and John there. 15 As soon as they arrived, they prayed for these new believers to receive the Holy Spirit. 16 The Holy Spirit had not yet come upon any of them, for they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 17 Then Peter and John laid their hands upon these believers, and they received the Holy Spirit.

Read all of Acts 8

When you read chapter 8 you see that there is great power in being baptized in the Holy Spirit. These verses above, as well as other parts of Acts, show that believing Jesus is Lord and repenting is one experience for the believer, and then there's the separate experience of being baptized in the Holy Spirit.

Acts 19:1-7New Living Translation (NLT)
While Apollos was in Corinth, Paul traveled through the interior regions until he reached Ephesus, on the coast, where he found several believers.[a] “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” he asked them.
“No,” they replied, “we haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”
“Then what baptism did you experience?” he asked.
And they replied, “The baptism of John.”
Paul said, “John’s baptism called for repentance from sin. But John himself told the people to believe in the one who would come later, meaning Jesus.”
As soon as they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then when Paul laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in other tongues[b] and prophesied. There were about twelve men in all.

When the Holy Spirit falls upon you, it  obviously brings with it the power to speak boldly about the Lord and the power to perform miracles. It brings with it gifts and praise.

Acts 4:29-31New Living Translation (NLT)

29 And now, O Lord, hear their threats, and give us, your servants, great boldness in preaching your word. 30 Stretch out your hand with healing power; may miraculous signs and wonders be done through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”
31 After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with boldness.

In some verses, laying on of hands is done for people to recieve, but in different parts of Acts they merely heard the Good News and fell upon them.

Acts 10:44-48New Living Translation (NLT)

44 Even as Peter was saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who were listening to the message.45 The Jewish believers[a] who came with Peter were amazed that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles, too. 46 For they heard them speaking in other tongues[b] and praising God.
Then Peter asked, 47 “Can anyone object to their being baptized, now that they have received the Holy Spirit just as we did?” 48 So he gave orders for them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.

Let us pray that all believers will receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit, to show the world the proof of the truth and build up the body of Christ.

Acts 14:3New Living Translation (NLT)

But the apostles stayed there a long time, preaching boldly about the grace of the Lord. And the Lord proved their message was true by giving them power to do miraculous signs and wonders.
