Dreaming With Jesus

Daydreaming is often looked upon as an activity for lazy people or a waste of time. Even the daydreamer themselves consider their dreams nothing more than an unobtainable goal. But have you, the reborn child of God, ever considered where these dreams and desires are coming from? As believers, we know that it is no longer we that live, but Christ that lives in us (Galatians 2:20). The Bible also tells us that we have the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16). So where else can these daydreams and desires be coming from if not from the one who lives in us.

Then, are they “daydreams” at all? Or are they in fact the visions of the future from the Holy Spirit?

“When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.” John 16:13

Many people have taught others not to trust their own thoughts or desires… Not to trust their heart… But the truth is that while your old-self had a wicked heart, your brand-new self has a brand-new heart.

“And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.” Ezekiel 36:26

And God is working in your heart, your mind, and in every part of you.

“For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him.” Philippians 2:13

No longer are led by sin, but by the Holy Spirit.

“Since we live by the Spirit, let us walk in step with the Spirit.” Galatians 5:25

You can trust your new self, because it is in Christ and Christ in you.

Do you still feel nervous about trusting your desires? Let me ask you, do your desires bring you peace and joy? Then you can trust that it is from God and that it is a benefit to you and His Kingdom.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23
“For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” Romans 14:17

So what now? These are the desires of God…. Now what do we do with them?

We don’t need to focus on God’s plans for our lives… We don’t need to strive and strain to achieve the end result.

We only need to look to Him. With our gaze firmly fixed on Jesus and His finished work, we let Him take us to it or bring it to us. We just let Him make it happen.

You will then find that desires are peaked in certain areas of your life… You’ll see opportunities begin to present themselves. And knowing that God’s favor is upon you, you can walk down that path with confidence in Him who has gone on ahead of you.

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10

He will freely give you everything you need to bring this vision into your earthly reality.

“May he equip you with all you need for doing his will.” Hebrews 13:21

The path that He sets you on is never a treacherous one. If it seems difficult, then step back. Somewhere along the way you’ve tried to take the reins from the Spirit and put them into your own hands of flesh. Here is an easy tip for the journey ahead… If it’s hard, then it’s not Jesus.

“Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:29-30

It’s really exciting to know all this. It’s easy to wake up every day and thinking about what is going to happen. But our response to these wonderful visions isn’t to pray, every day, for them to come to pass. Our focus isn’t on the finish line. Our joy and peace isn’t hinged upon them becoming a tangible reality. But rather our response to these visions is just to give Him praise and prayers of thanksgiving for planning these things and for giving us a glimpse of His glorious will for us and our lives. And our answer to His will for us is simply “Amen”.

“For all the promises of God are "Yes" in Christ. And so through Him, our "Amen" is spoken to the glory of God.” 2 Corinthians 1:20

If you’ve ever prayed from heart for something to come to pass or to manifest in your life, it’s because it is His plan for you. Don’t ever down play your dreams and desires. They sometimes may seem impossible, but the impossible is God’s specialty.

“After all, he’s famous for great and unexpected acts; there’s no end to his surprises.” Job 5:9 MSG

These visions of the future are one of the ways that we hear the voice of God. Our imagination is an active part of our relationship with Him. And His plans for you are a product of His eternal love for you.

My 6 year old daughter once said to me: Our imagination is when Jesus and our brain get together.

It really is true! Your imagination is Jesus showing you all of God’s glory that lay ahead in your life.

So, trust your new identity. Trust your new heart and mind. Trust your desires… Because your desires aren’t really your desires… They’re actually His desires for you.

“For I know the plans I have for you," says the LORD. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11
